Prof. Vittoria Raffa receives an ERC Advanced Grant
The GAP project – Guidance of axonal pathfinding via nano-switches, funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under the ERC-2024-ADG call (Project ID 101199573), is among the 281 European projects selected out of over 2,500 proposals (25 in Italy). Led by Professor Vittoria Raffa from the Department of Biology at the University of Pisa, GAP has been awarded the prestigious Advanced Grant, one of the EU’s most competitive and ambitious funding schemes for senior researchers.
Steering brain cells with force to rebuild lost connections
A collaborative study led by Prof. Vittoria Raffa at the University of Pisa, Prof. Fabian Raudzus (Department of Clinical Application) and Prof. Marco Onorati at the University of Pisa has unveiled a novel approach that uses magnetically guided mechanical forces to direct axonal growth, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of stem cell-based therapies for Parkinson's disease (PD) and other neurological conditions.

Il progetto LIFE ADAPTS, cofinanziato dall’Unione Europea attraverso il Programma LIFE (LIFE23-NAT-IT-LIFE ADAPTS GA n. 101148207), nasce per affrontare gli effetti del cambiamento climatico su due specie simbolo del Mediterraneo: le tartarughe marine (Caretta caretta, Chelonia mydas) e la foca monaca del Mediterraneo (Monachus monachus).IACS500 – International Andrea Cesalpino Systematics Symposium
Il 5 e 6 giugno scorsi si è tenuto a Pisa un simposio internazionale volto a celebrare la figura di Andrea Cesalpino, in occasione del cinquecentenario della nascita. Il simposio, organizzato dall’Orto e Museo Botanico del Sistema Museale di Ateneo in collaborazione con il Dipartimento di Biologia e il Centro Museo di Storia Naturale di Calci, è stato supportato da varie prestigiose associazioni scientifiche italiane e internazionali: The Systematics Association, International Association for Plant Taxonomy, Società Botanica Italiana, Unione Zoologica Italiana, Società Italiana di Biogeografia, Società Italiana di Protistologia.
