Zoos and Research: working together for conservation

Francesca Bandoli has a MSc degree in Natural Sciences at Florence University (2006) and she is currently specializing in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law at Winchester University (UK). She is animal curator and head of Research and Conservation Department at Giardino Zoologico di Pistoia. She is board member of the Italian Association of Primatologists (API) and the EAZA Committees for ex-situ conservation programmes (red pandas, binturongs, crested gibbons and Asian elephants). Her research focuses on the assessment of zoo animal welfare through the analysis of ethological and physiological parameters and on the study of animal social behaviour.
