Gli obiettivi che il dottorato di ricerca in Biologia si prefigge sono:

  • Alta qualificazione: rappresenta uno degli aspetti fondamentali del percorso di dottorato in Biologia, grazie al connubio tra attività formativa, a cui partecipano ricercatori ed esperti di grande profilo scientifico su tematiche innovative, e corsi mirati a potenziare il bagaglio culturale del dottorando e attività di ricerca, costantemente monitorata da supervisori;
  • Internazionalizzazione: la possibilità di seguire seminari organizzati ad hoc per i dottorandi tenuti da esperti internazionali consente agli studenti di prendere contatti e trarre ispirazione da ricercatori di elevata qualificazione scientifica, con potenziali prospettive su collaborazioni con gruppi di ricerca stranieri. L’atmosfera internazionale del Dottorato in Biologia è testimoniata anche dalla presenza di dottorandi stranieri e dalla partecipazione al Collegio del Dottorato di docenti appartenenti a prestigiose Università o Enti di Ricerca stranieri. Fortemente incoraggiata è la permanenza dei dottorandi per una esperienza formativa presso Centri di Ricerca e Università straniere di elevata qualificazione, secondo quanto previsto dal Regolamento vigente;
  • Valorizzazione delle Eccellenze: in tale contesto, l’Ateneo si impegna a promuovere le eccellenze attraverso iniziative, quali l’istituzione del Premio per miglior tesi dottorale, la pubblicazione di bandi competitivi di Ateneo riservati a dottorandi per l’assegnazione di fondi per l’organizzazione di meeting e workshop su tematiche di rilievo nell’ambito del Dottorato. A queste, si affiancano iniziative, quali, ad esempio, il concorso a premi Bioblitz, promosse dalla Commissione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile di Ateneo per sensibilizzare il corpo studentesco sul tema della biodiversità;
  • Collegamento tra Alta Formazione/Mondo della ricerca e mondo del lavoro pubblico e privato: in tale ambito, tra le attività formative organizzate per i dottorandi, sono previsti incontri in modalità telematica con esperti provenienti da Enti di Ricerca o realtà industriali o aziendali (ad esempio incontro con Executive Sequencing Sale Specialist, EMEA West, Illumina), allo scopo di fornire al dottorando strumenti utili per una eventuale prosecuzione del percorso lavorativo in ambito pubblico e industriale.

Il Dipartimento di Biologia è affiliato anche ai seguenti Dottorati Regionali Pegaso:
