How is the final grade calculated?
The final grade is calculated on the basis of the overall “curriculum” of the study, the thesis work and discussion, in compliance with the University teaching regulations and general criteria for candidates’ evaluation set by the Course of study Council.
The final grade is expressed in one hundred and tenths (0-110 scale). The maximum grade is 110/110 and honours (“Cum laude”) may be awarded to the maximum grade if the Committee decides unanimously.
The final grade, without honours (“Cum Laude”), is the sum of the following components:
- weighted average in thirtieths (0-30 scale) of the grades of the single exams (75%);
- average of the scores in thirtieths (0-30 scale) of each members of the Evaluating Committee
The final grade is the result of the following formula: (a*3+b)*115/120
The value “a” and “b” correspond to the average scores described above.
If the result is less than half an integer, the final grade is rounded down. If the result is equal to or greater than half an integer, the final grade is rounded up.
The Supervisor or the President of the Evaluating Committee, with the opinion of co-supervisors, may propose the “cum laude” award in case the Candidate has achieved a grade of 110/110 without rounding up and 30/30 cum laude in at least 2 fundamental exams of the Master’s Degree Course, or he/she has a weighted average of the grades of the single exams of at least 29/30.
